Position Summary
The Sous Chef plays a critical leadership role in daily kitchen operations, supporting the Executive Chef in delivering consistent, high-quality food while maintaining safety, cleanliness, and team performance standards. This position is hands-on, fast-paced, and requires strong culinary execution paired with people leadership and operational discipline.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Executive Chef in all aspects of kitchen operations, including prep, service, and closing
- Lead BOH staff during service to ensure quality, timing, and presentation standards are met
- Enforce all food safety, sanitation, and health department requirements
- Assist with training, coaching, and development of kitchen staff
- Monitor food quality, portion control, and recipe adherence
- Help manage inventory, ordering, receiving, and proper food storage
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment
- Step into kitchen leadership during the Executive Chef’s absence
- Address performance, attendance, and conduct issues in partnership with management
- Collaborate with FOH leadership to ensure smooth service execution
- Minimum 3–5 years of professional kitchen experience, including leadership roles
- Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, and kitchen equipment
- Proven ability to lead and motivate kitchen teams in a high-volume environment
- Solid understanding of food safety standards and sanitation practices
- Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts as required
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs
